Can you use baby oil as a lubricant? The Slippery Question

baby oil as a lubricant

Can you use baby oil as personal lubricant? If you want an honest opinion, it’s a NO from me.

It is quite simple – the manufacturer made the oil for babies. Baby oil is majorly mineral oil or petroleum jelly oil. At times, they add some fragrance to it too. None of these fall out of favor for babies. The oil keeps their skin tender and nourished.

The oil serves to moisturize babies’ skin and protect them from dryness and scratches.

It’s written nowhere in the label that you can use the oil as personal lubricant. The legitimate question then becomes, why do people still use it as a personal lubricant? Here are some reasons:

  1. Easy availability (you will have baby oil if you have a baby at home)
  2. Apparently causes no harm
  3. It is good for massage, so why not for sex?

While these reasons may seem convincing, let me share with you some issues that go straight against the use of baby oil as lube.

Now the primary role for baby oil is as a skin softener. But you will still need to think twice before using it as lube.

Along with the bacteria that regulate health, the vagina has a delicate pH balance. Manufacturers do not test baby oil for compatibility with the vagina. That is a major cause of worry in itself. Also, the oily nature can make washing after sex very difficult.

Personal lubricants are considered superior as these are specially designed to suit various forms of intercourses. The cost of lubes is going down and availability is going skyward. I have reviewed the top five lubes that can be used instead of baby oil. Also find a handy comparison chart with it.

What is baby oil?

Baby oil is essentially a simple mixture of minerals and fragrance.

While the fragrance part is secondary, it is an important selling point for most such oils.

The general purpose of using baby oil is to soften the skin. It can also be used for some secondary purposes.

  • Softens and moisturizes skin.
  • Improves alertness and reduces irritation.
  • Great for dry skin.
  • Can be used on adult hair.
  • Better smell and appearance.
  • Priced above average.
  • Poor packaging, bottle may crack during transit.

So my straight suggestion is…….

Play safe. There should not be any urgency when you are deciding on products that concern sexual wellness.

It is always better to go for something that is built for the purpose.

You may choose between a number of options that are already available.

# Wet Platinum Premium Lubricant 3.1 oz

Our impression

Wet Platinum

The Premium Wet Platinum lubricant is a great choice for lubrication in the silicone lube category.

The wet platinum provides you thorough lubrication in a non-sticky manner.

It also suits oral sex and the flavor is better than an I-D Millennium.

That is important if oral sex is on your cards.

In consistency, the Wet Platinum is even better than Swiss Navy on occasions.

The texture feels very natural and it will not dry in the middle of use.

Since this is a silicone lube, it will not work with silicone toys.

These lubes break down the toy surface and render them unusable.

But if you are using this as a substitute for baby oil, silicone play should not be on list anyway.

The heat conduction mechanism of the lube is smooth and even.

The lube can be used gladly under shower and even under water.

These are pleasantries baby oil will not present to you.
